Botulinum toxin A (Botox) injection

Botulinum toxin therapy has proved to be a very effective treatment of excessive perspiration. In effect, it is protein produced by bacteria that is injected under the skin and leads to a specific blockage of sweat glands thereby limiting perspiration.

The effect may be appreciated days after treatment.
The duration of effectiveness varies from individual to individual, and extends from 3-8 months, sometimes longer. On rare occasion, the effect may be attenuated or totally absent, and the reason for this is unknown. It has been suspected that a prior vaccination (tetanus) has provided relative immunity to the botulinum toxin.
