Liposuction method

die Methode der Fettabsaugung, Fettabsaugen, Liposuktion, Liposuction

In most cases, we use the tumescent local anaesthesia technique when performing liposuction. This entails the introduction of large quantities of a very dilute anaesthetic solution in the subcutaneous adipose tissue of the area to be treated.
This provides both pain relief and a softening of the fatty cells in order that they may be easily extracted without damaging blood vessels, nerves and lymphatic channels once provided with the appropriate time to take effect.

Several so-called vibration cannulae are introduced through small 3-5 mm skin incisions in order to extract the fatty cells while limiting damage to the tissue. These cannulae simplify the procedure and provide for better cosmetic results and swifter patient recovery.

Patients are awake during liposuction so that they may contribute to the desired result by turning the body or flexing various muscles. An anaesthetist is always on hand in order to administer intravenous analgesic and anxiolytic medications so that the operation proceeds as comfortably as possible.

The post-operative phase

The incisions are bonded after the operation, and since only a portion of the anaesthetic fluid has been withdrawn, one may expect leakage from the skin incisions during the next 1-2 days. In this respect, the patient is provided with absorbent pads and a corset. An optimal result requires the wearing of this corset for 4 weeks.
Several changes of dressing are necessary on the day of the operation, but it is basically possible to undergo the procedure as an out-patient. However, we do recommend that you remain in care on the day after the operation because of the dressing changes.
You will experience a sensation reminiscent of mucle ache on the day after operation and this may endure for a further 2-3 weeks.
Furthermore, you will receive anti-thrombotic injections as well as antibiotics to guard against infection.
